Dr. Dr. Heinrich Bültemann-Hagedorn is born in 1954. He works as a maxillofacial surgeon in Bremen in Germany.
In Bremen cycling is a part of everyday life. Children go to school by bike, grownups cycle to work by bike, the daily shopping is done with the bicycle.
As a student of medicine in the 1980s he was fascinated by the new Sturmey Archer five speed hub and was happy to fit one into his Peugeot bicycle. On a hiking tour in the 1980s he found the ruins of a very old bicycle on a scrap heap. He took it home, made it run again and found out only in 2017 with the help of members of the German Verein für Historische Fahrräder that it is a German Dürkopp Diana No. 12 from 1894. Since the 1990s he is a member of that Verein and gave talks at its annual winter meeting and at the ICHC meetings about Webers bicycle dynamo, the silent ratchet free wheel drive of the Star high wheeler, early rim brakes and the Heidemann 30 inch wheel bicycle.
